Francesca Riccio-Ackerman
Health Systems Expert
Bio: Francesca Riccio-Ackerman is a Research Specialist dedicated to creating health equity through her work in biomedical engineering and health economics, policy and development. She is leading efforts to expand healthcare access and delivery for prosthetic and diabetic services for patients domestically and internationally.
Currently, she is working on designing a novel delivery system to improve continuity of care, creating an algorithm that combines epidemiological and socioeconomic data to identify areas with health disparities, and developing health economic studies that illustrate longitudinal experiences and challenges for patients with chronic conditions including amputees.
As a biomedical engineer, Francesca mapped proprioceptive and touch perception for the development of a bidirectional upper extremity prosthesis in the Adaptive Neural Systems Laboratory. While working in a technical field, she frequently interacted with patients, friends, and family whose clinical challenges were exacerbated by their barriers to healthcare.
